Scent-Sations 1st Annual Convention, A Big Hit With The Distributors! |
“Attending the Scent-Sations FIRST ever convention was a very special thing for a number of reasons. It was great to meet so many other dynamic, exciting people who share like goals and ambitions. It was fun to be part of the roll out of new products such as the Pillar Candles and the Body Wash. But, more than ANYTHING, it was life changing for me to be able to sit down, face to face with the company owners - Bobby, Charlie, Lynn and Carmen, and "feel" the commitment and "see" the passion that these fine leaders have for the company and the distributor group. That is something that can't be truly captured on a conference call, in an email, or newsletter, etc. My total commitment to this company and our future together was sealed that weekend!”
-Jackie Ulmer, California
“The convention had a HUGE impact on me. Finally getting to meet the people that I talk to on a regular basis was a lot of fun. I met some great new friends and the family type atmosphere that surrounds our company is incredible! The training was incredible, and being able to be the first to see the new products was awesome! I came home and had a private training call to fill in my entire group on everything that they missed in hopes that they will be there for sure next year! I have focused a lot on my leadership and recognition skills since the convention and I really feel it is paying off. Thanks to the ENTIRE home office team for a great convention! I'll see you with my team in tow next year!”
-Jessica Simon, Illinois
“The 2003 Scent-Sations convention was awesome! For those who attended, it became 2 days that will be a remembrance of the history of our beginnings. We were finally able to put the voices together with the faces that were full of light and excitement. There was a sense of unity that we are all for one and one for all! The dream that will come true. We all came with the fire, but after the conference we were given so much fuel that this company is growing leaps and bounds. We all walked away with hope and desire to make those dreams come true. I never dared to dream until Scent-Sations provided the vehicle, and boy what a vehicle it is that will lead to my dream. I know that for those who overcame so many obstacles to attend, forgot those obstacles when all of us captured the experience. I left with sadness, but great expectations and knowing that we would be together again very soon exchanging more of our victories. NEVER MISS A CONFERENCE, it changed so many lives for the good. Everyone has their story. One of the story's is OUR NEW FOUND FRIENDS! Thank you Carmen, Lynn, Charlie, Bobby and the rest of the staff! You have accomplished so much and continue to sacrifice your time to help so many of our DREAMS COME TRUE!"
-Linda Eller, Illinois
“We wanted to express our deepest appreciation and gratitude for all the hard work that all of you put forth to present a wonderful 1st Annual Convention! We came back home with many inspiring thoughts and ideas to put into action in the coming year! We have been following the "Roadmap to Success" and have been getting great results!
What we treasure the most about the convention is actually getting to meet all of you and putting a face with the voice. You are all as genuine as you sound on the phone! We will make this a very successful year and begin each day with our best foot forward!! Thanks again to all of you!”

"Top Gun Rookies" for the Month of April |
Julie Nielsen, Ryan Wipf, Sue Geary, and Adam & Ashley Dilauro all became "Diamond Team Members" in their first month!
Julie Nielsen, Texas
I am Married to Curtis and I have 2 sons, Dillon, 13 and Asa 11. I developed Type 2 Diabetes and my doctor “prescribed” that I quit my job selling Mazda's at a car dealership. She explained that too many hours combined with too much stress was going to cut my life short!
Last month I was reading an email I got from Jim Campbell talking about candles in a catchy way that got me to go to his website. I fell in love with the information and walked into my bedroom and told my husband I had found something to replace my job!

I signed up online and then placed a call to the company. The first person I talked with was a nice gentleman named Eric, who is the son of one of the owners (Lynn). Eric was wonderful to talk to and he told me about the “Top 12 Sampler Pack “ of Candles.
I started telling everyone about my new candle business. On my first day I had sold 6 of the 12 candles
On my 2nd day of business, I received a call from Tod Precord, who is a salesman at a furniture store where my husband and I went shopping for a new mattress the day before. We had sold a candle to him and he said that he could not believe how clean burning it was and how it made the whole store smell!
Tod made an appointment to stop over and I showed him the 6 candles that were left. There was a plumber working at the house when Tod arrived and during my presentation to Tod the plumber bought 2 candles! Tod was impressed and went home and signed up that evening!
I love meeting and talking to new people. I also love helping people, and this business is tailor made for both of those subjects!!!
I know that a lot of people use candles every day and I want them all to know about the best candle on the market…Mia Bella's! I can not tell you how excited I am. I am excited most of all that I am really helping others. Helping them to get out of debt, get grocery money, what ever it may be, anyone can do this, and I can help them!
Ryan Wipf, Minnesota
I grew up in Elk River, Minnesota. It's a small town 45 minutes north of Minneapolis. I went to University of Northern Colorado where I was on scholarship for tennis. (I played in national and international tournaments). While at UNC I tore an achilles tendon and lost my scholarship.
I was looking for a way to make some money when I discovered network marketing. In my first program a training program was “duplicated downline” and because of that system I was able to develop a downline organization of approximately 1,300 distributors.
I live back in Minnesota, where I own a marketing, promotional and advertising company but I still teach tennis and recently starting training in boxing. I love working with youth and do a lot of volunteer work in that direction.
I found out about Mia Bella from a good friend of mine, Tina Summers. We worked together in the past. She called me up and asked if I had 35 dollars. I told her “Of course” and she immediately started taking down information to “sign me up!” (So my being here came as a surprise even while I was enrolling!)
Once I realized I was “in the candle business” I went to work and became a Diamond distributor in my first 24 hours!. Tina and I are teaming up to develop a huge organization.
It's A Family Affair:
Mom sponsors her son and daughter who become the youngest Diamond Team Members in their first month in business!
Deb Wood, Ashley & Adam Dilauro
“I have to admit, when my mom told me that we were going to be selling candles for a living, I thought she was crazy, so I told her she can count me out. But when I saw how much fun she was having, I immediately wanted in. I began to find myself making my friends and teachers smell the candles and tell them to take them home to their families.
In February, my mother and I attended our first workshop. It was awesome. We had so much fun! We smelled candles, we learned about the candle business, and we made a lot of new friends. We even went to our first hockey game with Bobby and his daughter, Mia Bella. A few weeks later, in March, we attended our very first Mia Bella convention. We had a blast at the convention with Lynn, Carmen, Bobby, Mia, Charlie, and Bob. The first Friday we got there, we learned so much. Then we learned even more on the next morning.
We heard from many speakers on Saturday, including Jackie, Lise, Bobby, Bob and Carmen and Lynn. That night they had a dinner dance. We ate dinner and danced the night away. First thing Sunday morning we packed up our things and headed for the warehouse.
About two weeks after the convention, my mother and I hosted a Mia Bella home party. Since my mom thought I was ready, I got to give the show. Yes, I did forget a few things, but it was my first time and I covered mostly everything. Now, my high school (Independence, Ohio) is holding a fundraiser with the candles.
I love this candle business and because I love it so much, my brother, Adam, and I hold the record for the youngest diamond position distributors. I believe I'll be in this business for a very long time. “
-Ashley Dilauro, OH
My first introduction to this company came through Jackie Ulmer's website. I couldn't understand why Jackie was now focusing on selling candles. I knew of her success with other companies and candles seemed like such a strange step to take. It was a definite paradigm shift for me.
Being an avid candle burner myself, trusting in Jackie's business sense, and having an open mind to anything that I thought I could make money with, I decided to give these candles a try and I got on the Candle of the Month Program. I received my first candle (Texas Cedar wood) a few days later. I have to be honest here. My very first thought was ewwww, a wood candle! Well, let me tell you, within five minutes of lighting this candle, I was hooked! I knew immediately that I had found the absolute best candle on the market and that I would never burn another brand again.
My next step was to check out the company, which my daughter Ashley and I did the very next weekend. We packed up the car and drove 5 ½ hours to Pennsylvania for a company training. It was a horrible night and nobody told me that I was going to be driving through a mountain range with zero visibility!
Needless to say, I didn't arrive in the best frame of mind. The next morning as we were walking to find a place to eat we got off the elevator to the welcoming smell of hot apple pie. All I could think of at that time was finding the restaurant that was baking whatever smelled so good. We came to find out it was our candles burning in a simmer pot.
Having been in the industry for more years than I care to remember, and being involved with more companies than I care to count, I knew after this weekend was over that I had found what I was looking for. With a winning combination of superior products and an absolutely amazing team at the helm, the only place to go is straight up.
I am so proud to be a part of a company that truly cares about it distributors. My kids and my husband are behind me and helping with this for the first time in my network marketing career. Ashley is doing presentations by herself and Adam is organizing a fundraiser for his soccer team.
The only advice that I can give to anyone considering this business is to join us. Become a part of this amazing family. You won't be sorry.

Business Builders of the Month |
The Nelson Family
Scott, Alissa, and Janie
"It is exciting to find myself featured in this newsletter for the 2nd month in a row. My wife, Janie and I have been working with Scent-Sations for almost 2 years and we have watched this tiny company grow and expand their product line and it really excites us to see what we have in place already!
When we started with the company there were a few hundred distributors and the products were totally unknown. We think this is the easiest marketing program available today. We were introduced to these candles thru the “tried and true” Smell and Sell demo and were amazed at the product. We signed up and never looked back!
Our first commitment was to “get the product into the market place!” We decided that booking shows was the best way to get exposure to the public and it has been great. We do 20 to 25 Home Shows, Gift Shows and Fairs and we sell an average of $1,000 to $1,500 per event. We've recently expanded into fundraising!
Shep and Jan Kuester have been incredible and they strongly encouraged us to get out and build our organization. We love the new auto responder system and we have sponsored over 20 new distributors in the last 8 weeks!
We love the Internet! We love how so many of our prospects go to the Scent-Team website and enroll which allows us to be “working” even when we don't even know someone is at the site! We are strongly encouraging all new members to get a scent-team website and the auto responder!
The number one thing that I really love about this program is that my family can work together. My wife resigned from her full time job and we are now both full time in Scent-Sations! My 16 year old daughter Alissa is now plugged into the shows with us so we are now a “family affair!”
We are now focusing a lot of our effort on team building. We started a Soy Success Training Call for our team and we are hosting live calls on Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week.
All anyone has to do is get committed to this program, smell and sell to everyone you come in contact with and have fun! This business really makes sense and you can make as much dollars as you want if you really take it seriously!!!!”

Home Parties Are a HUGE Hit! |
“HOW TO MAKE A HOME PARTY WORK FOR YOU”
By Top Gun Home Party Specialist and Diamond Team Member
Debbie Winard
“I have been a SAHM (stay at home mother) for almost 16 years and I am very busy with rodeo and sporting events. That is why I like doing candle parties. I can schedule the parties around our family time and I don't have to ask for time off from a boss. I can do one party a week or six if I want.
I've been married to my husband, Kent, for almost 17 years. We have three children, LeeRoy 16, Shelbi 14, and Justin 7. We live in Idaho in a town of 600 people. We have a large farm where we raise cattle, horses and grow alfalfa in the summer.
Probably the most asked question about doing any kind of a party is "Where do I get the Bookings?" … I used to sell for another Home Party Business before I came across Scent-Sations, and in the very beginning, I was asking that same question. It finally dawned on me, after I used my family and friend resources, that doing County and Craft Fairs would bring a lot of people to me!
(Note: I recently did a big commercial fair and I have over 26 people to call who want to learn more about the business PLUS there are 64 people who want to do either a home or book party.)
I used a drawing slip at all the fairs with a simple item to give away. Because of this simple tool, I went from a beginner to sixth in the nation in sales within seven months. I remained in the top ten when I changed to Scent-Sations.
You might wonder…..Why would I look at another business when I was sixth in the nation? Because most home party programs don't pay the kind of profits that Scent-Sations pays. I was making the other company rich and making myself work too hard for too little money. The quality of those products were such that, although I sold lots of products (they had three different candle lines to offer), I never got re-orders for them!
Scent-Sations changed all of that. I've been able to pay off my credit cards and now I have people calling ME to order candles. I call my customers up one month after they purchased a candle, whether from a party, fair, etc. They always want to reorder!
I do several Fairs and Craft Shows a year. This helps not only with getting parties booked, but also to recruit new people. I ALWAYS have a Free Candle Drawing. This gets people's attention and you can tell them about the products while they are filling out the slip. This is what I have on the slip:
NAME:
PHONE:
EMAIL:
MUST BE FILLED OUT FOR DRAWING
I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A CANDLE PARTY!
YES NO MAYBE
HOME SHOW BOOK PARTY
I AM INTERESTED IN EARNING AN EXCELLENT INCOME WITH SCENT-SATIONS!
YES NO MAYBE
HINTS: I always ask for the contact's email address so I can put them on my “information drip list” which means I can send them monthly newsletters and updates!
I always have several Hostess packets ready to give to people at the fairs who want to have a party sooner than a month. I will explain later what to have in the packets.
On the following monday, I start making the calls to schedule the parties. I try to make it within six weeks of the call, but once you get busy, you'll be scheduling three months ahead! That's a good thing!
One month before the party, I call and confirm the date, time and address. I then send them their Hostess packet
This includes:
Hostess Instruction Sheet - I printed this on the back of our Fundraiser Sheet that has the picture of our candle. I give instructions for the prices, s/h if you charge and the incentives I give my Hostesses. This is a personal preference on what you want to charge. I charge $17.50 per candle plus $1.50 S/H. Here is an example of what I charge and give to my Hostess:
10 sold 1 Free and 1 at my discount Book/Brochure Parties - 2 Free
20 sold 2 Free and 2 at my discount Book/Brochure Parties - 4 Free
30 sold 4 Free and 2 at my discount Book/Brochure Parties - 6 Free
40 sold 6 Free and 2 at my discount Book/Brochure Parties - 8 Free
Do you see how I made it to where it evens out to a dozen? I live so far away from any party I do that this makes it easier for me. I won't have to deliver. I always have enough inventory with me in case, for example, 15 are sold. I would have the extra five candles available to leave the night of the party and still order the dozen - 10 sold plus 2 Hostess Incentives makes the dozen.
Only at the Home Parties do I sell the Bella Bars and votives. I give 10% to the Hostess for these products and for any extra candle over each "10" sold. She can use it for what ever product I have on hand.
I encourage my Hostess to get bookings by offering one candle at cost per booking. Once she gets three, she will receive a Free Candle.
Ten Order Forms - I print them out myself. I also applied for a merchant account through my business account at the bank so that I can accept Visa, MC and Discover. I have the C.C. information on the same order forms for the customers to fill out.
Customer Contact List - I give the Hostess over thirty ideas on who to invite, old school friends, family & friends, coworkers/and or their wives, people who have parties, etc. I chose to send the invitations myself so I send about 36 blank white mailing labels that the Hostess will put the guest name and address on and a self-addressed envelope so she can send the labels back to me. I tell the Hostess to have them back to me two weeks before the party. I choose to send the invites because there were too many times that I would show up for a party and no one would show. The invites weren't used, only word of mouth.
Hostess Customer List - This will help the Hostess keep track of who ordered what and if they paid. The Hostess keeps this so that when the candles are delivered, she will know what product goes to who.
Scent List - I print out the entire candle list with a description of the scents. It's a lot easier for them to chose, and easier on me not to have all the scents on hand. The candle sample kit will be available soon and that will be very helpful.
I also put in 5-8 business cards and brochures for the Hostess to show . I tell the Hostess to use my website as a tool to help her with her party. The guests who can't make it can look on my site, at the candles and descriptions, and tell her what they want. I encourage the Hostess to have ALL the outside orders in before the party so we can close the same night.
The most important part of having a successful party is Hostess Coaching. Some Hostesses are great and you won't have to coach at all. Others may need a little more help and this website, www.TheBooster.com , has been very beneficial for my business. It helps me keep organized, my Hostess in focus and also has things to give to your downline and customers. You will find something very valuable called the Party Magic Dry Erase Board. This helps you keep track of your Hostesses, the party times and dates, when you sent the invites, when you called, etc.
I call every week before the party to confirm the date and time. Two weeks before the party I send out a post card that I get from The Booster thanking the Hostess for having a party, etc. It has a place to put the date, time, my name and number.
One week before the party I call again and send out another postcard that reminds the Hostess to call her guests to remind them of the party. I then call two days before to get a head count and directions to her home.
For a "brochure" Book Party, I send three votives with the Hostess packet. I have them sealed in small zip lock bags with labels. The bags you can find at Wal-Mart in the craft section. I also give them 20 order forms and two weeks to close their party.
I show up 30 to 45 minutes before the party because of the outside orders. It's best to get them taken care of before the party. I only do a 10 to 15 minute presentation by telling them about our products, the benefits, etc. If they are in a good mood and not in a hurry, I may do a game. But most of the time I don't. It just depends on their moods and mine. Always make sure you tell them about the COTM membership. I've signed on a few people that way.
I bring about 15 to 20 1/2 three ring binders that have pockets. I put the Hostess Instructions, which includes the prices, in a plastic insert. The next insert contains the scent list. The last contains the COTM and Fundraising information. In the pockets, I put the brochure, my business card and order form. I encourage them to take the brochures and cards home to keep.
I know first hand how hard it is to stand in front of people you don't know and look calm and collected. Just remember that you are being Paid to Party and have FUN with it! AND never ever forget to send a Thank You card to your Hostess. Tell her how much she saved and how much you made from the party. This will encourage her to share it with her friends and family and you will get recruits signed up this way.
-Deb Winward, ID
“Home parties and open house parties are the way to go when it comes to making that quick take home money. I have had several home parties and a couple open house parties. I have averaged selling $500 to $750 at each home party. And this was usually no more than 10 people in attendance.
At my first Open House Party that I was invited to attend, along with 6 other vendors of different products, my total sales was $450 and I got 4 good customers from this one. The second Open House Party I attended was one a friend hosted for me. I sold over $600 at this one and now have 5 good customers from this along with a florist selling the products in her floral shop.
I find it very important to keep home parties and open house parties very simple and short. People like to look, buy and leave ... of course always smiling and happy with their products.
I can't wait to get more home parties set up and going. Spring has sprung and I have the spring fever, and I am itching to do the "show and smell, tell and sell."
-Lucille Boling, MS
Home Parties = $$$$$$ (True Story)
Pennsylvania distributor, June Montalvo is turning Mia Bella Soy/Veg candles into lots of cash. In November 2003, a friend asked June if she could do a home party with the candles. Although June had not done any type of home parties before, she said "OK" and just went over and showed the candles to her friend's guests. To her amazement she received orders for over $1,000 dollars. "From that one simple party, I've continued to book party after party and the sales have all been incredible. With the money I'm earning it feels like I have a full time job except I only have to work one day a week!"

Bella Body Wash is a Hit! |

1oz. Bella Body Wash Samples are a Great Way to Make Sales
"I placed an order for 100 of the new 1 oz. samples. As soon as I got the shipment, I couldn't wait to go out and start handing them out to people. However, I could not resist trying it myself before I could share with anyone else. So I decided to use the Body Wash on my face instead of the Bella Bar. I wet my face, then saturated it with the Body Wash. After rinsing it off, my skin felt so squeaky clean, soft and so refreshing, not to mention the great Cantaloupe Kiwi fragrance.
Since I needed to make a deposit at the bank, the tellers at the bank were the first to get one of our awesome Body Wash samples. Everyone started crowding around me to see what I had that was causing so much attention ... even customers there to make deposits. So I decided to stand at the door and hand each one a sample and business card as they left. I handed out about 25 in that one bank.
I decided this went over so good, I would stop at the next business which was a grocery store. I stood outside the exit door and handed each person and/or couple a Body Wash sample with a business card. I handed out a total of 30 samples and business cards. After the day was over, I had 15 samples left.
This was a week ago and I am already getting lots of calls and emails about the Body Wash. People can't believe how good, soft, refreshing and clean this makes their face feel. And they love the fragrance. I have several people waiting for me to get my order placed and deliver the Body Wash to them. I have several prospects waiting to hear more about the business.
This is a winning product. I can't believe how a 1 oz. sample of Body Wash can make a person so excited. What an awesome product and company we have. I just want to say I love all of you guys for making this business so much fun and so awesome for all of us. You are the greatest of the greatest with the greatest products on the market!!!”
-Lucille Boling, MS

Student Council Turns Mia Bella Candles into Cash at Fundraiser! |

Scent-Sations distributor, Maryann Wylam and her daughter, Amanda Booth, of Exeter, PA took a box of votives, a few Mia Bella candles and the 8x10 color picture of the candles (from the fundraiser sheet) to the teacher in charge of Wyoming Area Student Council (Amanda is Vice President of the Student Council and is attending college next year on a Diving Scholarship!).
The student council loved the idea of Soy Veg Scented candles and (obviously) so did their friends and family as they sold over 600 candles and made a profit of over $3,000!
"The kids embraced the whole thing and did all the work. All we had to do was show them the product and they took off with it……what a great way for kids to make money," said Maryann! |
Distributor of the Month: Kathy Schneider, TX |
"I am 44 years old and live in Wolfforth, Texas (a small community outside of Lubbock) with my husband and 3 children.
I grew up in Fort Worth, Texas with a mom and dad who raised me with an understanding of really believing, “If there is a will there is a way!” (If my dad and mom said it once, they said it a thousand times!) They didn't just say it, they lived by their words, and both living a childhood that some would use as a crutch to never succeed -- neither were stopped by obstacles they had to overcome. They raised me to do the same.
Upon graduation from high school, I went to Texas Tech University and graduated in 1982 with a teaching degree. I then taught school for several years, married, then upon the birth of my first child in 1987, I resigned --- knowing I just couldn't put her in daycare!
My husband, who was a cotton farmer with his dad and brother in a small West Texas town quit farming, too --- we wanted to spend our time together and WITH our baby girl. We opened our own retail furniture store, with a very, very small investment. All went along pretty good until our daughter started school … then, realizing we weren't happy with the school district we relocated and later sold the building our store was in and closed our business and moved.
My husband began a new business and I started a home-based cruise travel agency. It was a small agency and I loved it but when we found out we were expecting our second child (10 years AFTER our first) I knew I couldn't spend the hours and hours on the phone it required (this was in the pre-Internet days!), so I closed the cruise agency.
When my son turned 10 months old, I began to "miss" having a business again --- at this time, we had the Internet and I began searching --- and found the Direct Sales Association's website and searched anything and everything that was of interest to me.
I contacted several companies and waited on replies. I joined my first network marketing company that operated as a party plan business. I did well and had a team growing by leaps and bounds, then became pregnant with our third child! Knowing I wouldn't want to leave home at night and Saturday mornings to hold the parties, I left this company but not without an education of the party plan side of direct sales, which I'm so grateful to have experienced.
I joined my 2nd network marketing business, which I built from a home-based office, using only my computer and telephone. LOVED every minute of it and again, did well --- then some things happened at corporate that I felt were not ethical so I resigned. With this company, though, my ‘Internet' days began and I've been fortunate to have learned from some of the best in the industry.
Over the next several years, I became part of several online network marketing businesses but continued to experience the frustration of not seeing duplication from my partners. I made connections and lots of friends --- and business partners with many, many folks I'm still associated with today. Actually, every step of my ‘network marketing' career (way back to the party plan business) has been a stepping stone.
When I was introduced to the Mia Bella candles, through a partner in another business I joined with the plan to only buy the candles for my own use and as gifts for teachers, family and friends.
All I can say now is WOW! Every candle I gave as a gift was always bragged on and appreciated, then those recipients began to ask where they could get additional candles and the rest is history.
I have always been an avid believer in ‘multiple streams' of income but at this time, all my energy and focus is on building my Scent-Sations business and in helping as many of my partners who have the dream, to build their business, too.
I'm seeing REAL duplication now for the first time in my 5 years of network marketing and I feel this is because we have a real product and 3 ways to earn money."
